So you are looking for a few good spots to hit up while visiting Hongkong?, No worries, i got you covered, no matter if spicy, sweet, savory or extraordinarily classy. I don’t claim to have the most complete, diverse or crazy list, simply spots I really enjoyed and would recommend. No pics this time, cause I still feel too akward getting out the big camera in a restaurant. So here comes the gweilo list of food in Hongkong
RAMEN:
- Cubism: Is a modern Japanese Ramen shop with cool music (some Kpop, Anime Soundtracks or similar) and astethtic. I quickly found my favourite dish here which I ordered many times: Ramen with 9 different Soy Sauces, with a side of pork belly and if you are hungry enough or take someone to share, I’d recommend the Takoyaki Balls. (Location: Central)
- Yuki House Ramen: Great place especially if you like to create your custom ramen flavor and mix it up with different addons, spice levels or soup bases. (Location: Wanchai)
Chinese Food:
- Haidilao Hotpot: An absolut classic and must visit for anyone who hasn’t been to one before. Try out at leat two soup bases (chilli and tomato are my go to) and get some cheese Tofu balls and all the rest, that appeals towards your pallett. (Location: Causeway Bay, TST, Yau Ma Tei + others)
- Din Tai Fung: A Taiwanese Dimsum restaurant, one of the best in the world, the Xiaolongbao are handmade and incredible (Location: Causeway Bay, Sha Tin, TST)
- Tim Ho Wan: The one in Sham Shui Po has a Michelin Star, so if you ever wanted to try Michelin level food, come here, its probably the most affordable restaurant in this league. If you dont care about that, go to one of the other locations, the Dimsum is still excelent. (Location: Central, Sham Shui Po, Olympic City)
- Come: Has many offers, I always just went for the Jian bing, a kind of chinese crepe, that gets folded with some crunch bread and vegetables and spicy sauce if you like. Try it, if you never had it before. (Location: Cause Way Bay, but Tin Hau Station)
- Sour and Spicy Noodle: Life is only complete with Suan la fen (try the little spice one first and see if you can handle the tongue numbing burn, in case you think “lets do this slowly”, they also make an unofficial “baby spice level” if you ask for it) (Locations: Causeway Bay, Mongkok, Kwun Tong)
Vietnamese:
- Nha Trang: It’s a bit loud, but still worth it for fullfilling the Pho craving, if possible, book a table at the window front to get a great view of the harbour! (TST: Harbour City)
Korean:
- Sodam Chicken: If you want a longer bite of chicken and more flavours to choose from come here. Only order a side of pizza if you are into thick american pizza. (Location: Causeway Bay)
- Seoul Bros: Noone can resist a quick bite of sweet and sour chicken, I am sure. Tipp, don’t get takeaway, first its fresher and second the portions are bigger if you eat in house, at least in my experience. (Locations: Wanchai, Mongkok, Kwun Tong, Central)
Snacks:
- Mammy Pancake: Egg Puff (Waffel) a Hongkong classic and its just so much more than a normal waffle, make sure to get a warm one, with a bit of added chocolate. The moment you bite into it, it will melt slowly (Location: Wanchai, Hongkong Island)
- Any bakery with Pineapple buns, it’s fluffy sugary heaven (Location: Everywhere)
Allrounders:
- Coosthi: Breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner or just a short break, always feel home at Coosthi, getting a table on the “balcony” overlooking the shopping street below in a light summer breeze, the sun shining through the highrises has a great flair. (Location: Wanchai)
- Jaspas: Located in Kennedy Town its perfect for a pre or post sunset feast. (might be closed down now)
- Jinan-Bou: Famous for it’s bowls, offering a wide variety of combinations of meat and rice either in bowl or bento form. You order with your phone and make sure to get some side dishes like miso or else.
Classy:
- Carbon: Fancy a great experience especially for dinner, come here, Steak, lobster and other specialties. I do recommend the 4 course set, otherwise your price per person definitly will go past the 100 Euros ~ 800HKD fast. Their Wagyu is excellent. Downside for casual loving me, you need to dress up a bit to get in. (Location: Central)
